SPFF's Annual Free Fly Casting School Minimize
Are you interested in getting started in the sport of fly fishing but have never had an opportunity to learn how to cast a fly rod?  Well, here’s your chance to get free expert instruction on a sport that you’ll enjoy for a lifetime.
SPFF Fly Casting School

Sierra Pacific Flyfishers is pleased to announce the dates for our 2010 Casting Classes.  They are March 20, April 3 April 10, April 17 and the weekend of April 30-May 2. The orientation meeting on March 20, 2010, is something we recommend for everyone interested in taking our Casting Classes.  The instructional classes will be held on three consecutive Saturdays, beginning on April 3.  And the 3-day weekend, April 30 - May 2 is the Casting School Graduation Outing, where you will be able to practice your newly acquired skills fishing on the Owens River near the town of Bishop.

The Orientation meeting will be held in the auditorium at Reseda High School on Saturday, March 20 at 9a.m.  At this meeting we will explain to you the purpose and goals for our Casting Classes and what you can expect to learn.
•      You will be introduced to the sport of fly fishing.
•      You will learn about the basic equipment needed to start fly fishing and what the costs are.
•      We will register you for the Casting Classes.
•      We will give you the names and locations of the local shops that specialize in fly fishing equipment. These retailers will be offering fly fishing outfits for beginners at special prices for the students of our casting class.

The reason for having the Orientation meeting two weeks before the actual instructional classes begin is to allow you time to purchase your basic equipment.  Also, the annual Fred Hall Show will be held in Long Beach the weekend of March 3-7 and there will be a Fly Fishing Show in Pasadena the weekend of March 13-14. These two shows are a great way to check out equipment needed, and see what fly fishing is all about. Here are a few reasons for going to the two shows...
•      You’ll be able to attend seminars on fly fishing
•      Most major equipment manufacturers will have their products on display.
•      Many vendors will have equipment available for demonstration.
•      The local fly fishing retailers will have special “show” deals on equipment.
•      You can visit us at the SPFF booth, where we’ll be happy to answer all your questions about our club and its many activities, fly fishing equipment or fly fishing in general.

Additionally, if you are going to order your equipment on-line or through a catalog, this will allow you enough time to get your gear.

The three consecutive Saturdays in March will involve both classroom and on-the-water instruction with a fly rod.  SPFF will have loaner rods and reels available for the first week of instruction but you must have your own equipment for the second and third weeks.  The classroom instruction will be in the auditorium at Reseda High School.  Access to the Reseda High School parking lot is on Kittridge St. west of Lindley Ave.  The on-the-water portion of the class will be conducted using the pond at the Reseda Recreation Center, which is adjacent to Reseda High School.  All classes will begin at 9:00 AM and should finish by 1:00 PM.

After completing our instructional classes, you will be invited to attend the Casting Class Graduation on the weekend of April 30th through May 2nd in Bishop, California.  Experienced club members will be available to help you put your new casting skills into practice as you fish for both Rainbow and Brown trout in the Owens River.  We’ll all meet for dinner on Saturday night at BBQ Bill’s in Bishop where you’ll also receive your diplomas.
